ifchk is a network interface promiscuous mode detection tool written with both security and system administrative applications in mind. The program will:

- Report on the operational state (PROMISC, normal, down, etc) of each interface attached to the system.

- Shutdown all interfaces running in promiscuous mode, if told to do so.

- Report per-interface traffic metrics to help identify spikes in network traffic flow.

- Log per-interface state information and traffic metric dump invocation via syslogd.

Feedback (suggestions, bug reports, problems, etc) is welcomed and can be sent to the author at engineer@noorg.org.

*ifchk Linux was mostly written under linux-2.4. Please see the INSTALL-Linux file, included with the ifchk distribution, for more details.
